If you're a subscriber to Beyond the Business Suit, you know that we've been doing a #blackgirlmagic series which has been a lot of fun. Now, for the first time in Beyond the Business Suit history I'm going to put the spotlight on the men. In over 130 episodes we've only had two men on Beyond the Business Suit (and one was my dad), so in my #flyguyfriends series I'm featuring some of my guy friends doing some dope things. And I have a lot of them, so even though I am only featuring three in this series, I may bring the series back in the future.
First up is Jamal Henderson, President of SpringHill Entertainment (founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter). Note: we recorded this back in the fall, so he mentioned some projects he was working on at the time including a show called Survivor's Remorse which is unfortunately no longer on the air.
In this episode we talk about:
– Jamal's career journey and how working in consulting and brand marketing led him to becoming an entertainment executive
– How having a father in the arts influenced him being on the business side of entertainment
– How he has been able to bring his creativity to work to create and launch innovative things within an organization versus starting his own thing
– Some of the exciting projects he is working on

The Final Five
1. If I were to ask 10 people who know Jamal to describe him using three words, they would say: creative, dad, short 🙂
2. I don't believe in work/life balance but I do believe in work/life management. How Jamal manages all of his priorities: It's an evolving answer. He's able to control his schedule more than any time in his career. He tries to keep his mornings free so he can connect with his kids. On weekends, when he can, he tries to be present as much as possible.
3. What is one experience that he's had that he couldn't believe he was in the room he was in: He was in a small, intimate dinner with a black billionaire. He also loves that he can work with young entrepreneurs and young men of color which is a great experience for him.
4. One book that has impacted his life: The Alchemist
5. What he puts on to feel his most powerful: a polo shirt, chino pants and running shoes, he feels unstoppable!
