In this episode of Beyond the Business Suit, I dig into the benefits of gratitude. If you're reading or listening to this when I publish it, I want to wish you a Happy Thanksgiving! This year I am spending Thanksgiving with my dad and stepmother in Houston. Every year my dad makes his famous smoked turkey and rabbit — yes, rabbit– stuffing. It is delicious and something that is a part of our family tradition. And you probably have Thanksgiving traditions of your own. As I was thinking about Thanksgiving traditions I realized that sometimes I think we get so caught up in these traditions (the great food, the upcoming Black Friday sales and even our family drama around the Thanksgiving table) that we forget about the idea of having a day where we give thanks.
Over the years I've heard a lot of talk about gratitude and that there are tremendous, surprising benefits of giving thanks. This led me to research, what are some of those unexpected benefits of gratitude? So I wanted to share some of those with you today (listen to the episode for the details):
- It makes us happier.
- It makes us healthier.
- It makes us better leaders.
- It can prevent us from overeating. (I put this one in here since it's Thanksgiving and, I don't know, maybe we all suffer from eating too much on Thanksgiving because we're not grateful enough, just sayin'!)
- It increases our productivity.
Before I wrap up I wanted to express my sincere gratitude to you. It's because of you that I continue to publish this podcast, and I want you to know that every listen, every rating or review, every recommendation to your friends, family and colleagues makes me incredibly grateful. I feel so privileged to do the work I do. So thank you, thank you, thank you!
