Today I had the chance to have a conversation with one of my favorite coaches and people in the world — Carla Ogunrinde. Carla is a Certified Professional Coach, a Master Practitioner in Energy Leadership, a former IT executive and a beautiful soul. She is masterful in connecting with people and helping them understand and access the power their energy holds for them. I am excited to share that Carla will be one of our Executive Coaches joining us at the Beyond the Business Suit Retreat taking place April 17-19, 2020 in Scottsdale, AZ!
In this conversation we talked about how Carla got into this work, how she has always been a coach even when she didn't have the “coach” title, the importance of our stories, why understanding energy can make an impact in our lives and more.
About Carla
As a Certified Professional Coach, I specialize in Leadership and Life Coaching. After a successful career as a corporate executive, I created Intend Coaching & Consulting, LLC. with a mission to help people discover what they really, really want and then articulate their intention to make it happen.
As a perpetual student of the human potential for growth and discovery, my purpose is fulfilled by helping others reveal theirs. The results are nurtured, empowered, and authentic leaders who live and lead consciously for the greatest impact.
Final Five
1. Where is your favorite place to vacation? Amsterdam
2.What do you think makes someone a good leader? The courage to share all aspects of themselves, the vision, of how to get it done. If you hoard it, you're by yourself and being able to share yourself and know that it adds is so important. A person doesn't follow an org chart or strategy, they follow a person.
3. What is one experience that has shaped who you are? Her oldest daughter was premature and Carla was quickly taken to a support group for grieving parents even though her daughter was alive. It was the first time that she declared that she was fine and she is going to be fine. That clarity of her voice was something she put her energy behind and 32 years later her daughter is still a beautiful person and spirit.
4. What is the best advice you've ever received? In her early 20s she would drop her g's and say “aks” instead of “ask.” She worked at a high end hotel, hadn't gone to college and one of the polished women pulled her aside and said “stop saying ‘aks,' it's ‘ask.'” Carla never forgot that. It stung, but she appreciated her honesty and advice.
5.What is one book that has changed your life? Iyanla Vanzant's Acts of Faith
