As we enter into a new year and begin our journey towards a better tomorrow, it's important we take notes from individuals who can help guide us through the process such as Equity, Culture and Leadership Expert, Tara Jaye Frank.
In this episode, Tara shares her strategy for making leaders understand what modern racism looks like in the workplace and how we can combat it in order to help Black and brown employees thrive. She takes a deep dive into her approach to the work and even reveals what her most impactful call to action is for leaders leading in this era.
QUOTABLES:
“Diversity and inclusion are two sides of one coin.”
“Part of the divide is that we need to provide equal opportunity for everybody.”
” I believe each and every human being has creative power and we are inherently good.”
“We do not expose ourselves to people who are not like us.”
“Sometimes opportunities come to you because of the people who know you.”
THE FINAL FIVE:
- What was your first job? I worked in a retail store called Merry-Go-Round. I sucked at it. I am not your typical sales person, person.
- What are 3 things that make someone a good leader? Every single human being at work wants to be seen, respected, valued and protected. That is my new definition.
- If you could have brunch with 3 people, dead or alive, who would you pick? (Who are not Oprah or Michelle Obama :)) Brené Brown, I’m a big fan. Auntie Maxine Waters, I’m curious about her journey. Dr. Johnnetta Cole, she was the President of Spelman College when I was there.
- Who do you stan? I stan all of the people that are doing God’s work, which means making life and living better for everyone. I have a thing for Soraya Chemaly and I stan humanity in people.
- You have a free day to do whatever you want for 24 hours, what would you do? I would eat cake! Chocolate cake. My favorite thing is P.F. Chang’s Wall Of Chocolate Cake.
