In this episode of Beyond the Business Suit, I am talking about one of my favorite services for my clients: capsule wardrobes! If you're not familiar with capsule wardrobes, you're in for a treat. They are such a great approach to building a usable wardrobe. When I build these for clients, I like to think about it as building their own “capsule collection.”
What Is a Capsule Wardrobe?
The term “capsule wardrobe” was coined in the 1970s by Susie Faux, a London boutique owner. She described this concept as a collection of a few pieces of clothing that don't go out of fashion that can be mixed and matched with seasonal items. Over time, this concept has really turned into having a select number of items (typically under 50 though many women have far fewer) in your wardrobe that can be mixed and matched together to create your wardrobe for a season.
What's So Great About It?
I love capsule wardrobes because they bring some intention to your shopping purchases, can be an economical way to have a great looking wardrobe, make getting dressed easier and also can prevent your wardrobe from getting overtaken by the 80/20 (rule where you end up wearing only 20% of your wardrobe).
